Organising a sporting event – the basics
It doesn’t matter what your cause is – either collecting funds for a certain project or raising awareness of a certain health problem – one of the best ways to make that happen is by organising a sporting event as it seems that everyone enjoys them. After all, there’s nothing better than different teams teaming up, competing in a friendly way and having fun. However, organising a sporting event is totally different than organising anything else, and if you don’t have experience in this department, it might be difficult for you to start from the bottom. Worry not, as we have the most important tips and tricks so that you can also organize a sporting event without any problem.
If you’re in charge of the organisation of this sporting event, suffice it to say that you’re an organised person, but one cannot be too organised. Sporting events are a bit different as you literally have to have everything in mind, starting from venues (and the poll of these is smaller than cafes for example), the weather and the people who will be coming there. This means that you are in charge of everything, so it would be a good idea to ask help from more people and delegate different tasks to some of them so that everyone has something to worry about or research
Medals and trophies
All of the competitors will expect some kind of a reward or a form of acknowledgment. And since your budget might be a bit tight and it could be difficult for you to provide actual rewards, make sure that you always have medals and trophies to give to the best ones. If you’re organising a rugby sporting event or have rugby as one of the sports on the sporting event, choosing high-quality and beautiful rugby trophies is an excellent idea because they look very cool, retro, and most importantly, they scream “success”. Make sure to have medals for the first three places as well.
How to choose the right venue
So the venue might be a bit tricky to choose, especially because there’s not of plethora of options. The first thing that you need to have in mind is that the weather might not be good for the day of your sporting event, regardless of the season. This is why it’s always good to choose something that also has an indoor arena in order to be safe. Moreover, think about the small things such as dressing rooms and lockers, as this is important for all the competitors.
Organising a sporting event that will include different kinds of sports is the best one; not only because you will attract more people but because it will be easier for you to advertise it. First of all, make sure that you market the event through different social networks as this is always the best idea (focus on Instagram which is, at the moment, the biggest advertising platform). Apart from that, you can reach out to different coaches and instructors of different sports and invite them to join the event. Finally, you can always hand out leaflets in gyms and places where people go to train. This is also a great option to get volunteers – people will gladly participate in something this interesting.
Organising a sporting event is totally different than organising a bridal shower or a corporate party, but it’s also much more fun. And if you think you have what it takes, it can easily be something that will make you proud. Think about the small things, hear our tips and tricks and there you go. Good luck!
