Top tips for less food waste
Every time you throw food away you are effectively throwing away your hard earned cash. Most of us do throw some food away every week. In the Uk alone back in 2015 £15 billion of edible food was thrown away. So why not save your self time and money by shopping less and eating more of your leftovers.
You don’t need to spend hours planning what you are going to have for supper every day – but do have a weekly plan based on the current days activities
Check your fridge a couple of times a week for foods that are not going to be eaten within their use by date. Either use them or freeze them.
Use things like coconut milk to add to smoothies, spicy soups or stews. (Coconut milk can also be frozen in ice cube trays or freezer bags).
left over tapenade or tomato sauces spread on toast or add to tomato based pasta sauces
Left over vegetable and eggs can make delicious tortilla recipes. Tortillas also make great lunch box recipes.
Commit to using leftover supper recipes for packed lunches next day. This maybe in a sandwich, wrap, soup or create a salad with whole wheat pasta.
How much food do you cook at once. If your portions are far too big then freeze for supper another day.
Whether on-line or in the shop always have a shopping list. Don’t buy things which are perishable that you can’t eat withing the use by date.
