The more clutter you have the more difficult it is to keep the house tidy. It also makes the house more difficult to clean and impossible to find anything.
The thing is clutter has a habit of creeping into your home without you realising. One way of controlling clutter is adopt the one in one out rule. Now I am not saying it is easy or won’t require discipline – but this really works – and helps with the collecting clutter problem in many different ways.
So the one in rule one rule works like this. Every time you purchase something new, you throw out or give away an item.
Your wardrobe is an obvious area to target, but it’s also easy to accumulate too many kitchen ware and home accessories like pictures, mirrors or lamps.
Same goes for furniture, kitchen stuff, magazines – in fact everything you bring into your home.
Teach your children to adopt the same rule. One new toy in equals one old toy out. Same with DVD’s, sports stuff and gadgets.
Now use the same strategy to keep clutter out of your life. If you take on a new commitment give up an old one to make space and time. This maybe hard if you are one of those people who tend to try to pack as much as you can into each day. However by adopting this rule with time commitments it forces you to assess how you really want to spend your time.
