Reading with and to your kids, is one of the best ways to help them improve their reading skills.
I wrote an article some time back about reading with kids and in it I mention a 101 Dalmations, one of my favourite books which I read to my daughter when she was about six.
I am sure this was the catalyst which helped her to start reading properly and was the start of her love of reading.
The secret to reading a book with your children is for you to find a book that you might like to enjoy reading too. Maybe an old favourite – or one that you have never quite got round to reading in the past.
If you were a fan of the Lord of the Rings then now maybe the time to read The Hobbit, another timeless classic and well-loved children’s book that many adults enjoy.
Since its first publication in 1937 it has remained in print, to delighting new generations of readers all over the world. The books hero, Bilbo Baggins, has taken his place among the ranks of the immortals of fiction.

The Hobbit is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and is being made into a major movie which will be released later in the year on 14th December 2012.
