Why it is important
Most things in life, whether it is in the home, workplace or any other aspect of life require consistency and a little patience to gain some success. So it makes sense that patience and consistence in parenting are important. However sometimes this is easier said than done.
Consistence in parenting
The thing about consistency it requires us to be unwavering, steadfast and firm in our purpose. Dealing with toddler tantrums is a good example of how outside influences can sabotage our best intentions in being consistent.
Our steadfastness can be influenced by many circumstances. We maybe tired, in a public place, or uncertain that our actions are correct. So without even realising we become inconsistent, unfocused and erratic in our approach to dealing with little Tommy’s latest temper tantrum.
Impatient for results
Consistency has gone out the window. Our little cherubs, the respondents of our inconsistent behaviour are confused with the mixed messages we are giving out. Meanwhile we are wondering why our approach has not worked and guess what we give up. We conclude that this particular strategy has not worked and move on. Actually the fact is we are the reason it has not worked. Our in consistence and lack of patience has sabotaged our best efforts.
Think of parenting in a different way
How we parent is very personal to all of us so you may disagree with this hypothesis. If we replace parenting with dieting, getting fit, studying for exams or whatever our particular challenge is, then being unwavering and steadfast along with good dollop of patience, will help us achieve most goals.
Never under estimate patience and consistence
Never under-estimate the importance of patience and consistency. They are valuable characteristics to aspire to. They will keep us fixed in a direction without expecting overnight results. Consistence along with allowing “Time” time. These will be your allies to achieving long-term success in whatever you try to achieve. So the next time your little cherubs are running rings around you remember Patience and Consistence – and make sure you give “Time” time.
