“Doing what you say gets you what you want.” That phrase was quoted to me recently and it really struck a chord. Sometimes it is the simplest of phrases that give us the key to success.
Now there are many reasons why we choose not to do what we say we are going to do – and that is OK. But what is not healthy is to be repeatedly telling others and ourselves, that we are going to do something – and then never getting round to doing it, for whatever reason.
Let’s take a simple example. We say we are going to go to the gym. And then we don’t go. Well as we haven’t done what we say we were going to do– we do not achieve the success in getting fit or losing weight. So we don’t get what we want.
Now if our kids don’t do what they say they are going to do, we get irritated. They may have told us they are going to turn the TV off, tidy their bedroom, or (insert your own personal favourite here.)
But if we don’t attempt to do what we say we are going to do, how can we possibly lecture our children when they don’t do what they say they are going to do.
So remember doing what you say gets you what you want. And this simple phrase is a really important ingredient to success – in whatever shape or form you are looking for.
So doing what you say you are going to do, not only will help you to get what you want and achieve more success, it will also help your children understand this important rule of life and encourage them to do what they say they will do, as well. And that will help them and you.
