Good nutrition is an important part of a healthy lifestyle, however understanding what good nutrition is makes it much easier to have this healthier lifestyle.
There are many different nutrients all required in different amounts for optimal effect. One nutrient that is often overlooked is carbohydrates (carbs).
These are essential for the body to function, and without carbohydrates,these muscles including the heart could work. Having a zero carb diet will put a lot of excess stress on the body so it is important that you are getting enough.
Types of carbohydrates – good and bad
However this is not usually the problem; it is the type of carbohydrate. There are mainly two types, slow releasing and fast. Fast releasing carbohydrates such as fruit are good as they also contain many other beneficial nutrients including vitamins and minerals.
Refined carbohydrates such as white rice are also fast releasing, but these use more nutrients to digest than what they give back to the body, so you can actually end up worse off!
Make sure to limit you amount of refined foods so you do not rob your body of nutrients and if you do have them, that you replace the nutrients by reaching or even exceeding your five a day fruit and veg.
