Now all the festive celebrations maybe long gone and the media is full of information on holidays, diets, keeping fit and of course the inevitable New Years Resolutions.
I have always thought trying to start a New Years Resolution in January is a bit of a recipe for disaster. After all we are all still recovering from the after effects of Christmas.
Added to that if you are about to embark on a fitness or healthy eating plan, there are still far too many tempting things around which need to be eaten up. You know the sort of thing. The Christmas cake, tins of biscuits and chocolates which have been given as presents.
Even if naughty but nice food is something you are not trying to avoid, we are generally still a bit out of sync and many routines have gone out of the window over the Christmas period.
So personally I think January should be a time to consider what we want to achieve in the coming year and an opportunity to develop some strategies as to how we are going about making sure they happen.
New Year Resolutions which revolve around improvement in some way are going to take time and generally impatience can be our biggest enemy.
So why not take a few minutes now to decide what New Years Resolutions you would like to adopt. It maybe losing weight, not losing your temper, having more fun, being more organised…..
Whatever your New Years goals are, think about some small consistent steps you can make which will move you towards your goals. Work out what prevents you from making these things happen, and think of ways that you can overcome these challenges.
You could also embark on a bit of dry run. A bit of a detox – in diet terms before embarking on the real Mc Coy on February 1st.
Break down your goals into bite size chunks to achieve weekly or monthly. Don’t be too ambitious, aim for improvement, (on whatever you want to achieve), not perfection.
Taking time out to do this will really help make you achieve positive changes in your life.
