In this article I will advise all you busy mums on how you can set up a home gym for a very little price so that you don’t have to force yourself to the gym in the rare free time you get.
What equipment do I need?
Any exercise can be done using an exercise ball and is great for the whole body. Its shape means that more areas of the body are utilised than you would using a bench. These can range from as little as £8 and come in different sizes. The shorter you are the smaller the ball you should look to buy.
In most shops you can buy cheap sets of weights that range from 1 up to around 5kg so that you can test your body at different strengths through various exercises. Average price for a set of weights would be around £20.
My top buy would definitely be the resistance bands as they are light and small and can be carried around with you anywhere you go. They come in different shapes and sizes for use of various exercises. Whereas with weights to make it harder you need a heavier weight, with the bands you simply make them shorter thus increasing the resistance on them. These bands on average cost around £15 (that’s how much mine cost anyway).
Skipping in my opinion is the best form of cardiovascular exercise so if you have a small amount of room you get just as good a workout as on the treadmill. Don’t worry if your not good at it straight away, a little bit of practice and you very quickly get used to it. These average around £10.
So you see you only need these four pieces of equipment for home exercise for an average total price of around £55. That is just one month membership at a health club.
