Create happy thoughts
The link between our thoughts and feelings
It may be obvious but happy thoughts create happy feelings which in helps to have a positive outlook on life and as a result happier life.
Conversely negative thoughts can create negative feelings.
Have you ever observed the internal chatter in your head? Do you even realise that our thoughts shape our lives and those around us. Making sure we keep a grip on the chatter that is going on in our head is really important.
These little gremlins are sometimes referred to as ants by psychologists. This stands for “automated negative message” an excellent way of describing them. They can take on many different guises. catastrophic, the inner negative critic
For example if you are feeling overwhelmed, exhausted then your internal chatter maybe reminding you of everything you should be doing , haven’t done and confirming that you are rubbish at everything anyway. This in itself is very draining. Causing a flurry of more ANTS to appear. It is amazing how much we all listen to this internal chatter. If your best friend turned round and told you how rubbish your were – you wouldn’t consider them much of a friend would you? And I bet you would not be likely to tell your disorganised friend that she is rubbish – you would try to help her.
The reason for ANTS
There are many reasons and forms of conditioning we all absorb through our lives that can influence our thinking and feelings. Pyschologists believe that fundamentally these ANTS are a way of trying to keep us safe. Where and who is responsible for these ANTS doesn’t matter. We just need to stamp on them metaphorically and turn our inner critic into our inner coach.
The first step is becoming aware of your own subconscious chatter and recognising that just because a little voice in our head is telling us something it does not mean it is actually true.
Thoughts are where everything begins
Everything we do, starts with a thought. Every invention, medical breakthrough, or creation, started with a thought. Every action we take good or bad started with a thought. Think about your own life and how the decisions you make start with your thoughts. And within that mix are your own experiences, those that you encounter in your life from which we form opinions and experiences.
Try to make a conscious effort to think happy thoughts. Happy thoughts can be happy memories or happy future plans. Reframe things which have not gone well. What positive message can you take from a difficult situations, or things you consider a “failure” (Although we don’t think there is any such thing as failure). Try imagining stamping on those ANTS (automatic negative thoughts). Replace then with thoughts and taking positive action. However small that action may be. Thoughts which are followed by positive actions can become reality; thoughts which remain thoughts are likely to just end up as dreams. And those negative thoughts can be self-limiting making us fearful and pessimistic.
So be mindful of your thoughts…they are shaping your future. Make sure your thoughts, that constant internal chatter in your head is helping you not hindering you.
Create happy can do thoughts which will allow the problem solving bit of your brain to kick in. Immediately you will find you are feeling much happier and able to tackle all those challenges that previously had been dragging you down.
