Writing your article
My suggestion would be to write your article in word or on google docs. Consider the subject you are writing about. Think of a key phrase that reflects your subject and which you can include within your article on two or three occasions. Make sure you have an introduction and a conclusion to your article. Also consider the Title of your article which should also include your keyphrase.
Loading your article on Help for Busy Mums
Now when you are ready to publish log in to your account. You can find the contributor log in at the bottom of any Page on Help for Busy Mums. Once you have logged in you be taken to a page where you can see a list of blogs that have been published.
On the right hand side of the page you will see a menu, hover your mouse over the menu and you will see “Posts”, then “Add New Post”. This will bring up a new blog post page. Copy and paste your article into the main body of the Post. Add your title where it says “Title”. Note do not use H1 in the body of the post just H2 or H3 for headings. You can find this on the menu at top just above the Title.
There is also another menu – maybe to the right or below the body of the article. This is where you can save the draft. I would advise you to do this regularly. You can also add the category you would like your article to be listed under and any tags you would like to add.
Maybe you would like to link to another of your articles that is relevant to your article or maybe an organisation or company. To do this highlight the words where you would to link to on your article. Go to the menu at the top and click on the paperclip. Click on Settings icon and a link menu will appear. Type in the link on the prompt menu. Add a tick to the box which says “open link in new window” and then click the update button bottom right of the menu. You should also try to link to an article within Help for Busy Mums site too. It is good for SEO.
Please make sure than any images used are royalty free. I would suggest horizontal images not vertical – the look better. One image is fine.
To load an image go to “add image” the box immediately below the “Title” box at the top of the page. Then go to select files search and click on the image you wish to use. Your image will appear (sometimes it takes a few seconds to load). Make sure that you place your image at the top of the main body of the article. Click on the box, bottom right “insert into post”.
Allow your mouse to hover over the image you have inserted into the article and a menu will appear on the image. Click on the pencil edit symbol. Another new menu page will appear giving you options on the size and how you would like your image to appear. It will prompt you to “add alternative text” to explain the article.
Place the image in the “Centre”. And make the image 1024 x 576. If you want to add a title to the image you can do this here if you wish. Press bottom right “update.”
Back on the main menu from where your article and image, go to “Featured Image” box, select your image and it will load as a featured image.
Adding other media is pretty much the same.
