Clothes shopping rules for busy mums
What we wear has a big effect on the way we feel about ourselves. When you are a busy mum it is difficult to find the time to shop for clothes and invest in a little time on yourself.
So time spent shopping needs to be used wisely.
So here are a few clothes shopping tips which will help you save money, time – and hopefully make your shopping trips happier and more successful experiences.
Do your research
Before you hit the shops, or internet, check your wardrobe. What do you need? What items are you missing, falling apart or just don’t fit?
Ask yourself what occasions cause you the most “don’t know what to wear problems”? What do you “need”for these occasions?
Do you have an outfit that is missing the right shoes, top, jewellery or underwear that stops you wearing it.?
Have you outfits that can be dressed up or dressed down, you might be able to wear on different occasions, if you wore different shoes, or a more casual jacket or cardi with the outfit?
Once you have worked out what is missing in your wardrobe – hit the computer and do some research. Finding clothes on-line (even if you don’t want to order the clothes on line), will save you time trudging from shop to shop.
Budget and always try before you buy
If you are on a tight budget, leave your credit card at home and only take the amount of cash you are planning on spending.
Choose your shopping companions wisely, as you could be persuaded to buy something you are not sure of – or spend more than you had intended.
Try everything on before you buy. This can not be emphasised enough.
Before you buy, imagine when you will wear the item you are thinking of purchasing. If you can not think of at least three occasions when you can wear the item ask yourself whether this is really a wise purchase.
Quality and practicality
Check on the quality of the product. Does it crease? What are the washing instructions? Will it need to be ironed.
Finally don’t get too hung up on sizes, sometimes the cut, colour or make, can alter what size you will need.
If you are clothes shopping make sure you are appropriately dressed in comfy, easy to change out of clothes.
Finally – if possible leave the kids behind and allow yourself a little bit of time to browse the shops on your own or with a good friend.
