There is so much entertainment to choose from at Christmas time of the year whether it is carol concerts, pantomimes or ballet. Art and culture – whether it is a trip to the cinema, going to the pantomime or watching a ballet is a really opportunity to bring families together.
Art and culture is good for the soul, changes your mood and leaves you feeling energised and optimistic – even when you are feeling a little overwhelmed with life.
Take a look at the video clip below which celebrates how art and culture can bring families together and shows you some great festive activity ideas that anyone can get involved with:
Video: Art at Christmas time
Why Art is important – Video clip
• The word “carol” comes from the Old French carole, meaning a ring dance accompanied by song
• The first song ever broadcast was a carol, on Christmas Eve in 1906
• As a nation we love pantomime! Last year UK theatres sold a total almost 3m pantomime tickets that’s over 16% of total ticket sales!
• It is traditional in pantomime for villains to enter from stage left and heroes from stage right which dates back to medieval mystery plays
The film has been developed by Arts Council England, the national development agency for the arts and you can find out more information here Arts Council – Culture matters
