Over half way through January and apparently we are now approaching the most depressing time of the year. Our New Years resolutions are out of the window, bills are crying out to be paid and it seems forever to pay day. But the good news is that the days are getting longer and spring is (hopefully) not many weeks away.
Food For Thought - Look After Yourself - It's Important
Now Christmas is a distant memory and life is back into some sort of routine how about taking a little time out for you. If your reaction to that is “I have no time or it is not important, or it is selfish” – then I would ask you what happens when you don’t look after things.
They go wrong and break.
It may not happen today or tomorrow but it will happen at some point. Here is a little story.
There was a woman driving along one day and the warning light came on reminding her to fill the car up with petrol. She was too busy and ignored it, she had more important things to do with her time than fill up the car with petrol.
So predictably her car broke down. This was inconvenient and time consuming so it was a lesson well learned. So now when the warning light came on she always filled up with petrol.
However she certainly could not be bothered to check the oil and water or get the car serviced. The car ran fine for a few months and then a light came on.
She continued to ignore the light until eventually the engine blew up and the car broke down. This time her refusal to invest in the maintenance of her car cost a lot of money and time.
We are a bit like cars – the only problem is that we don’t have an external warning light – and some of us are so wrapped up in the here and now that we don’t recognise our internal warning lights either.
Remember if you want to be able to look after your nearest and dearest it is important you make sure you have looked after yourself first.
