Small changes can lead to big results.
Actually I will add to that – small consistent changes lead to big results.
It doesn’t matter whether you want to save money, lose weight, become fitter, give up smoking, coffee or alcohol. Be less stressed…become a better cook. The list is endless.
Making a small consistent change will help you achieve your goal and what’s more as long as the change is small and you are consistent, you are much more likely to reach your given goal successfully and sustain it into the bargain. .
Think about it. Give up a 100 calorie glass of wine a week and you will save 520 calories a year. Give up something every day the equivalent of 100 calories – by making consistent small changes and you will save 36,500 calories and lose even more weight.
Perhaps your goal is a little different and you want to become more accomplished at something. Let’s say as an example cooking.
Setting regular small amounts of time aside to practice is going to lead to a huge improvement in your confidence and ability as a cook.
There are two more things you also need to consider if you are looking at making changes to your life. The first is “Try something different”
Remember the saying “Do what you have always have done and you will get what you always did” We are great creatures of habit and lots of the time we do not even recognise our own self imposed limitations.
Find someone who is where you aspire to be, and take note of how they find the time, motivation and the skills …and if you can, ask for their help. People generally love to help and they will be flattered that you have asked them.
The second is “Measure the journey” Sometimes we forget where we were when we started out on our mission. Writing a note or a reminder in your diary as to where you are now and where you want to be by a particular date six or twelve months ahead is an incentive and a reminder that small changes really can work.
To reinforce your goal also try posting a reminder in your Outlook diary, weekly or monthly that can pop up and help keep you focused.
By the way these ideas are great to use with the kids when they are learning something new or they need a bit of motivation.
