The last few weeks have been quite a challenge for our family .. My father whose health has rapidly deteriorated over the last few months passed away on the 7th August. It has been a sad and very difficult time as there is nothing worse than seeing someone you love fade away before your eyes. My father had reached a good age - so although it is not tragic it is still very sad and part of life's ups and downs. It does give you a wake up call to what is really important and recognise it is omportant to seize the day as none of us really know what is round the corner so with that in mind ..........
Food For Thought - Schedule Time For Fun
Well the school holidays are moving into their final downhill or up hill run – however you view them.
So now is a good time to review whether you have managed to do all the things you had planned to do with the kids. Have you taken them out for the picnic, played hide and seek in the woods, had a treasure hunt in the garden or taken a trip to the beach.
Maybe your thoughts are more filled with getting school uniform, labelling clothes, or worrying about the start of the new school year.
School holidays can be stressful and expensive and seem never ending. Whatever the age of the children young, or old, have their own special challenges.
However, have you considered that in the grand scheme of things we are looking twelve summer holidays before the kids grow up and fly the nest
Whatever is on your mind that would like to do, or need to do but have not quite achieved – now is the time to have a serious Planning Meeting with yourself.
- Brainstorm – the fun things, games, activites and days out and schedule them into the diary.
- Plan when you are going to dig out the school bags, and shop for anything you need for the new school year. Mark this in the diary too.
- Remember to pace yourself.
- Leave as little as you can to the last minute. There are always things that you haven’t thought of which crop up.
- Remember fun doesn't have to last long - a game before bedtime or after work can be as enjoyable than a whole afternoon out when you are stretched for time.
- Stop trying to be perfect.
