Food for Thought - Life Cycles
There is a lot of talk at the moment about the credit crunch. Food and fuel prices are also rising rapidly. Then there are concerns about the environment. Indeed the list is endless. Added to that the media is full of doom and gloom about how life is getting tough.
When you are strapped for cash and have the outgoings many families are struggling with, this constant barrage of negative information, (whether it is true or not), can make very depressing reading, which then in turn can affect our relationships and insideously eat in to lots of different areas of our lives. The predictions then can become self fulfilling prophesies.
To stop this cycle it is woth taking a few minutes out to take a helicopter view of your own life, or maybe a friends or family you are close to.
My own observations show we all have our ups and downs in all sorts of areas of our life we don’t even necessarily recognise.
These “downs” could be our career, our relationships with family or friends, money or even our health. The truth is, it is all probably part of life’s rich pattern of Invisible cycles of life which exist just like the seasons and the lunar cycle.
If that is the case, these downturns in life, are like fighting winter approaching or the tide coming in.
This is not meant to sound defeatist. But sometimes when life is tough it is good to have an acceptance of a situation rather than taking all our energy to fight the inevitable.
If you can accept that life in all its elements works in mysterious cycles or seasons then we can approach tough times in a different way. Battling down the hatches for a period of hibernation or a metaphorical winter can give you a more positive outlook.
Good things can emerge from periods of hibernation or winter. They are times of renewal, of finding new ways to do things with more limited circumstances. This can give us a much more positive spin on life and help us recognise that “nothing ever stays the same”, and that this “winter” will not last forever and be followed by spring and then summer.
So when life is getting tough – in whatever way, hang on to this thought.
Be back in a couple of weeks.
